Our beliefs as a church come from the Bible, which we believe is God’s Word given to us. God’s Word teaches us what God is like, how to find the way of salvation, and how to live a life that pleases Him. (2 Timothy 3:16)
We believe in one God in 3 distinct parts, known as the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe God created the world, and that humans are his special creation, made in his image. (Genesis 1)
We believe that sin entered into the world through human disobedience, and all of creation has been tainted by sin, so that the world is not the way it’s supposed to be (Genesis 3). Our human tendency is to rebel against God and our sins put us under his judgment. (Romans 1:18 – 2:16)
We believe that God, in his mercy and love, has created a way for us to be forgiven of our sins and to be reconciled with Him again (2 Corinthians 5:17-20). Being restored in our relationship to God is called salvation. Salvation is a gift of God’s grace and not based on human merit. It comes through faith, when we repent of our sin and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord. (Ephesians 2:6-9)
Jesus is fully God and fully man. Because of his humanity, he was able to take our punishment upon himself with his death on the cross (Isaiah 53:5). Because he is God, Jesus was without sin and could be the perfect sacrifice that was required (Hebrews 10:11-18). Jesus rose from the dead and then returned to heaven.
Jesus left us with the gift of the Holy Spirit, to guide, help, and empower his followers in the ministry work he calls us to (Acts 1:1-9). Jesus will come back again for the final judgment (Revelation 20:11-12). Those that find their hope in him can have full confidence that we will live with Him in heaven forever. (I John 5:11-12)
The followers of Jesus gather in churches to represent Jesus to the world. In the community of other believers, we learn to love God and one another, and we work together to bring the good news of salvation to all parts of the earth, giving glory to God. (Romans 15:5-6)
